First in Telangana: Woman convicted under POCSO for abusing boy | Hyderabad News

HYDERABAD: In a first in the state, a woman was convicted under POCSO Act for abusing an eight-year-old boy and sentenced to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment by a fast-track court on Thursday. The minor boy was abused in school in 2017 by the 27-year-old woman who worked there as an attender. She was also ordered to pay a fine of Rs 10,000.
A complaint was lodged with Chandrayangutta police by the boy’s father on December 1, 2017, after the child revealed the sordid story when he was quizzed at home over burn marks on his body. The boy revealed that the new attender at the school was sexually abusing him when he went to the toilet and also hurting him.
“When the boy said he would inform his parents about her misbehaviour, the accused threatened the child and burnt his skin using cigarettes and a lighter. She sexually abused him twice in November 2017,” Chandrayangutta inspector K N Prasad Varma said.
(The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
