Govt should inspect bed availability to nail claims of private hospitals: Telangana Congress | Hyderabad News

HYDERABAD: Stating that many private hospitals were showing fake occupancy of beds just to block a majority of beds with ventilators for the rich patients who can pay exorbitant bills for coronavirus treatment, the Congress has demanded that the state government conduct inspection of each hospital to verify their claims.
Telangana Congress’s minority cell president Shaik Abdullah Sohail said the government had no effective mechanism to monitor the functioning or the billing process of the private hospitals.
Telangana had a total of 4,56,485 confirmed Covid-19 cases as on May 2, 2021. Of them, a total of 3,73,933 had recovered and 2,417 succumbed to the infection. The government should release details of how many of these Covid-19 patients were treated at private hospitals and how much they were charged, Sohail demanded.
The amount spent by people on treatment of coronavirus in private hospitals could be over Rs 1,000 crore. Officials should work out a way to access medical bills of all the Covid-19 patients and conduct an audit to check whether the private hospitals followed the orders of the government on treatment charges, he said.
Congress MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy demanded that the CM should urgently appoint a full-time health minister keeping in view the present pandemic situation.
