Senior officials said KCR has mild symptoms at present and is being treated at his farmhouse in Erravelli. The public meeting was held on April 14. Voting for the bypoll was held on April 17 and the result is on May 2.
KCR, who was suffering from mild fever, body aches and other symptoms since Sunday tested positive for Covid-19 in a rapid antigen test. Later, an RT-PCR test results too came back positive.
Telangana chief secretary Somesh Kumar told TOI that a special team of doctors has been deputed to monitor KCR’s health. The staff and people who moved with him closely have also been asked to get themselves tested and go for home isolation for few days. All his personal staff tested negative.
The Halia public meeting was organised with nearly one lakh people. KCR addressed the meeting as Nagarjuna Sagar was won by TRS in 2018 and the party has been taking all elections seriously after it suffered a shock defeat in the Dubbak assembly by-election in November, 2020.
Nalgonda health officials said as many as 440 cases were reported on a single day from the district on Monday and 66 cases were from Halia. Sources said the primary reason could be many participants in the meeting did not wear masks and no social distancing was maintained.
Besides Bhagat, other leaders like M C Koti Reddy and Kadari Anjaiah and their family members and scores of people got the infection at the meeting.
“Of the 175 tests conducted at the primary health centre at Halia on Monday, 66 have tested positive,” Kondal Rao, Nalgonda district health and medical officer, told TOI.
In Nalgonda district, the cases were just 27 on April 1 and rose to 208 on April 7.The cases crossed 300 a day in the second week of April at the time of public meeting, an official said.
Nalgonda district minister G Jagadish Reddy and health minister Eatala Rajender will be holding a review meeting on Covid-19 cases on Tuesday. They will look at the rise in cases both in Suryapet and Nalgonda districts
