HYDERABAD: Bhuvanagiri MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy of the Congress has appealed to the farmers to get ready for an agitation against chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao-led TRS government which has not set up procurement centres in villages.
“Unless we launch an agitation, it looks unlikely that the state government will start set up procurement centres. CM KCR had promised to set up procurement centres and also procure every seed of paddy from the farmers. But now that the by-poll to Nagarjuna Sagar is over, the government is neglecting the issue of procurement centres,” Venkat Reddy alleged.
He also wrote a letter to CM KCR seeking to remind him that he had assured on the floor of the house that the state government will purchase paddy from the farmers by setting up procurement centres.
“The farmers have harvested their crops but the government has hardly set any procurement centres,” he alleged.
“Also, the unseasonal rains in the past few days have damaged crops in large extents and quantities. As more rains have been forecast, directions should be issued to the chief secretary and other officials concerned to immediately start procurement of agriculture produce by setting up centres,” Komatireddy Venkat Reddy urged the CM in his letter.
