Three cops dismissed from service over custodial death of dalit woman in Telangana | Hyderabad News

HYDERABAD: A sub-inspector and two constables of Addagudur police station, who were placed under suspension a month ago in relation to the custodial death of a 48-year-old dalit woman, have been dismissed from the service by Rachakonda commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat.
On June 22, Rachakonda commissioner suspended Addagudur SI V Maheshwar, constables, MA Rashed Patel and P Janaiah for dereliction of duties in relation to the custodial death of Mariamma.
After Mariamma’s death on June 18 at Bhongir area hospital, when she was in police custody, as per procedure, a post-mortem was conducted and a custodial death case was registered under Section 176 of CrPC against SI Maheshwar and two constables.
Subsequently, in July second week, police submitted a memo in the court mentioning of the addition of Section 330 (Voluntarily causing hurt) of the IPC and the SC & ST Act in the FIR against the three cops after the medical examination of the woman’s son, Uday, who was picked up in a theft case, indicated custodial torture.
On Wednesday, Rachakonda commissioner issued a statement about the removal of the three cops from the service. As per the statement, “in Addagudur PS custodial death case of dalit woman, Mariamma, police persons responsible, SI V Maheshwar, Constables M A Rasheed Patel and P Janaiah , who have been under suspension, are dismissed from service under Article 311 (2) (b) of constitution and 25 (2) of conduct rules on July 20 by CP Rachakonda.”
On June 16, pastor Balashoury from Govindapur village in Addagudur police station limits, lodged a complaint alleging that Rs 2 lakh cash was stolen from the premises of church-cum-residence, police said. After the preliminary probe, police picked up pastor’s domestic help Mariamma, 48, her son Uday Kumar and his friend on June 17 night.
Police also recovered Rs 90,000 cash from the suspects. While the trio was being interrogated at the police station, Mariamma suddenly complained of uneasiness and she was shifted to Bhongir area hospital, where she was declared brought dead in the early hours of June 18, assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Malkajgiri, N Shyam Prasad Rao said.
